Mr. Patchamuthu assumed responsibility as the World Bank’s Country Director forPakistan on October 1, 2015.
Prior to his current position, he has held several managerial, operational and technicalpositions in East Asia and Pacific and South Asia regions of the Bank including frontlineassignments in headquarters and country offices. His previous assignments include:Senior Regional Advisor for Europe and Central Asia Region, a newly created positionfollowing the establishment of the Bank’s new operating model in July, 2014. In this rolehe integrated and facilitated crosscutting work between the Global Practices andcountry engagement in the region, and across the World Bank Group to deliverintegrated solutions to client.
He also served as Manager, Operations for Afghanistan in Kabul; Advisor to VicePresident for East Asia and Pacific Region in Washington D.C.; Country Manager forLaos in Vientiane; and Sector Leader for South East Asia in Bangkok. Mr.Patchamuthu’s Bank career span over two decades including leading teams that havedelivered complex and innovative operations to Bank clients in environment and naturalresources, water energy and urban sectors. He has extensive experience in leadingclient engagement and managing country portfolios in risky environments that haveforged multi-sector approaches to finding solutions to complex development challengesfacing countries.
Mr. Patchamuthu, a Srilankan national, joined the World Bank in 1993 as anEnvironment and Natural Resources Specialist. Before joining the World Bank, heworked in both public and private sectors in variety of managerial and technical roles.He has a master’s degree in environmental engineering and bachelor’s degree inchemical engineering.
